This is a 38 minute audio interview with Mike Sloniker. Mike is a retired U.S. army officer, Vietnam Veteran, helicopter pilot, American patriot, and Christian. In 2006 Mike was awarded the River Rat of the Year award from the Red River Valley Fighter Pilot Association for the work he did starting in 2004 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Virginia with wounded combat veterans. He was the first Army guy and helo pilot to be selected for this award. Mike worked primarily with long termers who had multiple operations or prosthetic difficulties. Mike's focus (in his own words) "was getting them off the games on their laptops, getting started with long distance education, and getting retired school teacher tutors." His inspired Gary Baber (USAF-Ret Col) to start a similar program in San Antonio that has touched the lives of many wounded veterans and families. Mike moved back to Oklahoma from the D.C. area in 2011 and is very active in the Air Warrior Courage Foundation.
In this interview, Mike shares his experiences over the past decade battling a variety of injuries and medical conditions, and relates how he has experienced God's strength and peace through it all. The mighty prayers of God's people have lifted Mike up time and time again. Through each experience, Mike points to the Lord as the one who has carried him through for specific reasons. Mike shares numerous bits of wisdom in this interview, including advice for anyone facing adversity in life: Give it to God, because none of us can do it alone. Many thanks to Mike for sharing his faith and experiences in this interview. A four minute video interview with Mike, "A Profound "God Moment" at Stand in the Gap," is available on YouTube. This video is also posted on the "3 Minutes About Jesus" project.
